How IndoorPlus+ SmartCare is Used
Seoul – July 13, 2021 – At the Spring Conference of the Korean Society of Medical Informatics held on July 8–9, 2021, People & Technology showcased detailed use cases of its smart hospital service, IndoorPlus+ SmartCare. The service has been successfully implemented in real-world settings and was highlighted through a presentation by NHIS Ilsan Hospital titled "Utilizing Information Systems for Comprehensive Nursing Care Services."
The presentation detailed the hospital's operations in COVID-19 dedicated wards and introduced smart solutions for COVID-19 patient management, infection tracking, and automation of nursing tasks.
Key Features and Use Cases of IndoorPlus+ SmartCare
1. Wearable Medical Devices and Automated Data Input
The smart patient management system in COVID-19 wards showcased wearable medical devices compatible with IndoorPlus+ SmartCare. These devices monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, and temperature 24/7. They were also used for adverse symptom monitoring post-vaccination. For patients unable to use self-health apps, wearable devices were issued to automate the collection and integration of biometric data into the EMR system. Additionally, Bluetooth-enabled height and weight scales were demonstrated, providing automatic data transfer to the EMR, reducing nursing workload and improving early detection of patient issues.
2. Infection Tracking and Management System
In the pandemic era, real-time contact tracing has gained importance for protecting medical staff and patients. Utilizing proprietary signal collection hardware, People & Technology enables tracking of all personnel movements within the hospital. This system fills gaps in manual surveillance methods, such as blind spots in CCTV monitoring or inaccuracies due to false testimonies, ensuring a seamless and thorough approach to infection control.
3. Asset Tracking System
NHIS Ilsan Hospital has implemented location tracking tags provided by People & Technology for essential medical assets, including wheelchairs, EKG monitors, and video laryngoscopes. By tracking the top five assets alone, the system can locate over 600 items across the hospital. This functionality reduces time spent searching for equipment and contributes to efficient resource management.
4. IV Monitoring System
The IV monitoring system integrates devices from partner companies with the IndoorPlus+ platform. It provides alerts when the infusion rate deviates from the set parameters, preventing errors and enabling prompt response. Additionally, it shares remaining infusion information, significantly easing nurses' workload and reducing safety incidents related to IV management.
5. Smart Refrigerator Temperature Monitoring
Through a main nursing dashboard, hospital staff can monitor the temperature status of medical refrigerators in real time. The system ensures the proper storage conditions for medications, reagents, blood, samples, and medical waste by automatically maintaining and recording cold-chain environments 24/7.
6. Smart Scale for Excretory Waste Monitoring
The smart scale measures the weight of excretory waste, such as diapers, drainage cups, and urinals, and automatically transmits the data to the EMR. This helps streamline patient care by providing accurate weight data while minimizing infection risks through immediate disposal of the measured items.
A Quiet Revolution in Smart Hospitals
IndoorPlus+ SmartCare has proven to be a game-changer, automating routine tasks, reducing the workload of nursing staff, enhancing patient safety, optimizing resource management, and strengthening infection control. The system continues to evolve, and its ongoing growth and development promise an exciting journey ahead for smart hospital solutions.
