Expanding the Reach of IoT – IndoorPlus+ Sets Sail to the Seas
Seoul – December 29, 2020 – People and Technology announced the official implementation of the Smart Navy initiative, which includes the establishment of a wireless network system on naval vessels. As part of this project, the company’s IndoorPlus+ IoT platform will play a pivotal role by collecting and integrating data from devices such as LTE and smart location trackers. This enables not only the monitoring of crew members' locations onboard but also the reception of status data for immediate emergency response.
This initiative is particularly noteworthy for eliminating communication blind spots on naval ships at sea, allowing crew members to communicate in real time freely. One of the key highlights is the use of Digital Twinning technology, which creates a digital replica of the physical state onboard the vessel. This approach enhances the safety, agility, and communication freedom essential for naval operations. By digitizing the location and status of onboard personnel, the Smart Navy project significantly boosts the mobility and operational efficiency of naval vessels.
People and Technology views this project as an opportunity to demonstrate the versatility of its IoT services, not only in commercial industries but also in public sectors like national defense. The success of this initiative validates the potential for IoT to revolutionize critical operational environments.
The project’s centerpiece, the Korean destroyer Yang Man-chun (3,200-ton class), has completed trial evaluations this year and is scheduled to begin full operation next year.
This marks a significant milestone in expanding IoT applications to maritime defense, setting a precedent for future innovations in both public and private sectors.
