Seoul – June 26, 2023 –
Enterprise AI service provider People and Technology Co., Ltd. (Co-CEOs Hong Sung-pyo and Lim Jin-soon) has announced its plans to expand its business scope into adjacent industries, leveraging its proven capabilities in smart defense technologies.
The South Korean government has been advancing its "Smart Defense Innovation" initiative to integrate cutting-edge technologies from the Fourth Industrial Revolution into the defense sector, creating a smarter, stronger military to address the evolving dynamics of modern and future warfare.
Proven Track Record in Smart Defense
People and Technology entered the defense sector in 2020 by supplying its IoT-based platform, IndoorPlus+, as part of the Navy’s SMART Navy initiative. The platform provided real-time crew tracking, fire detection, temperature and humidity monitoring, crew health management, patrol management, and emergency (SOS) functionalities.
The solution was initially deployed on the Yang Manchun destroyer (DDH-, 3,200 tons) and subsequently adopted for newer naval assets such as the Kwanggaeto-III Batch-II and Ulsan-class Batch-III (FFX Batch-III) ships in 2020 and 2021.
In 2021, the company also contributed to the Air Force’s Smart Air Base initiative, developing IoT systems for real-time monitoring of fire alarms, safety patrols, and emergency response using BLE fire sensors, RFID (NFC) tags, and LTE devices.
In 2022, the company expanded its footprint in naval IoT solutions by supplying beacon-tag-based asset management systems for three additional Kwanggaeto-III Batch-II destroyers and the Ulsan-class Batch-III frigates. It also deployed IoT-based solutions, including fire detection, patrol management, emergency calls, and door sensors, for the Navy’s 6th Fleet.
Future Opportunities and Expansion Plans
As the Ministry of National Defense implements its "Defense Innovation 4.0" initiative aimed at building an AI-powered, technologically advanced military, demand for smart defense solutions is expected to grow significantly.
A company spokesperson commented,
"The proven efficiency of our solutions on naval ships and airbases positions us to expand into other defense domains and potentially into commercial shipping and broader industrial sectors. This is a significant opportunity to apply our expertise in IoT and AI to new applications, driving innovation and operational efficiency."
Strategic Vision
By expanding its applications from military projects to commercial sectors, People and Technology aims to become a pivotal player in delivering AI-driven smart solutions to diverse markets, strengthening its position as a leader in enterprise AI and IoT service platforms.
