Pioneering Digital Transformation in the Construction Industry
People and Technology has been selected as a participating research institution in the “Smart Construction Technology Development Project Through Road Demonstrations,” led by the Korea Expressway Corporation. The project, overseen by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, is a six-year initiative running from 2020 to 2025.
A New Era for Construction Technology
This groundbreaking project aims to automate road and earthwork processes through advancements in:
- Construction Equipment Monitoring
- Digitalization of Construction Site Information
- Automation of Equipment and Quality Control
People and Technology will play a pivotal role in the third domain, focusing on digitally driven automation technologies for SOC road construction equipment.
With previous experience in the subsurface monitoring project led by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, PnT brings proven expertise in IoT applications to the construction sector. This project represents a significant step forward, building on its established strengths to explore new opportunities in smart construction.
Project Scale and Goals
The Smart Construction Technology Development Project is a major national initiative with a total budget of KRW 196.9 billion (approximately KRW 147.6 billion in government funding and KRW 49.3 billion from private entities).
The project aims to:
- Support the research, development, and commercialization of smart construction technologies.
- Conduct field verification and practical application of developed solutions.
- Create a comprehensive framework to enable consistent domestic implementation and global market entry for these innovations.
A Vision for Automation in Construction
"Supporting research institutions, universities, and companies in developing smart construction technologies, while ensuring consistent field validation and global market entry, earned high praise during the evaluation process," said a representative from the Korea Expressway Corporation.
While automating construction processes beyond worker safety remains experimental, this initiative exemplifies the government’s commitment to digitally transforming industries and fostering innovation among participating companies. The collaborative effort is expected to unlock previously unexplored use cases for advanced technologies, setting a new standard for the industry.
People and Technology’s Role in the Transformation
Through its participation in this initiative, People and Technology will expand its expertise from indoor-based IoT services into the realm of smart construction. This represents a bold step forward, demonstrating the company’s ability to adapt its technology for entirely new environments while contributing to the digital future of construction.
This project underscores PnT’s ongoing mission to innovate, collaborate, and lead in developing transformative IoT solutions across diverse industries.
