Seoul – November 21, 2022 –
Bucheon City, in partnership with People and Technology Co., Ltd., a leading AI IoT data services company, was honored with the Presidential Award in the Social Welfare Services category at the 18th Korea Local Government Management Awards for its innovative “Safer Smart Home” Service.
About the “Safer Smart Home” Initiative
The “Safer Smart Home” program is part of Bucheon’s Integrated Community Care Model, designed to enable elderly residents to enjoy healthy, independent lives in their familiar environments. Initiated in 2019, the program integrates housing, health, and social care services under a community-led policy framework.
In collaboration with Korea University Anam Hospital and People and Technology, Bucheon City has installed ICT care devices and implemented a Smart Integrated Care Platform to monitor residents’ daily lives and health in real time.
Key ICT care devices include:
- Activity and Living Environment Sensors
- AI Speakers and Tablets
- Health Monitoring Rings
These tools collect and analyze data, such as environmental conditions and biometric signals, alerting caregivers to potential health risks or emergencies.
People and Technology’s Role
People and Technology provides the IndoorPlus+ SmartCare Platform, which consolidates data from various devices, analyzes it, and displays key information via an intuitive dashboard. This enables caregivers to monitor critical health and environmental indicators and make informed decisions.
The system incorporates non-contact IoT devices and user-friendly wearable medical devices to automatically collect life-log data, including vital signs and daily activities. AI-powered models then generate tailored health insights to predict and prevent potential health issues.
Award Recognition
Organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and The Korea Times, the Korea Local Government Management Awards celebrate innovative local government initiatives that drive regional economic development and community well-being.
Bucheon City’s Smart Integrated Care program competed against 113 policies from local governments nationwide, evaluated through a rigorous multi-stage process.
Future Implications
This award-winning initiative exemplifies how digital transformation can enhance care and safety for vulnerable populations. By proactively identifying health risks, the program prioritizes prevention over reaction, significantly improving outcomes for elderly residents with chronic conditions.
